Default Local Flavor

I think it is important to get a taste of life as it is lived by the locals, which means staying at a resort isn't something I would want to do.

Are there programs where tourists can stay with local families and participate in daily life?

I know this is quite popular with students, and I am sure they have something similar for adults, although I am sorry to say I do not have any sites or anything that may be able to help with this. Perhaps you could join a forum local to the community you would like to visit and make some connections that way?

It is one of the very nice methods of sharing everything, culture, life style, food and many more things.People do opt for this, but better option would be that if you have friends only then you stay with them or you put up in hotel and spend most of the time with the locals.By doing this you will be having a good time.

You mean something like a student exchange type of program for adults? I have friends in other countries and have been invited to go and stay for a while. My son stayed with some friends in a foreign country one time and their daughter came and stayed here. It was fun!

It was in the paper that the tourism department has come up with a scheme, it goes like this, if you are interested that some tourists come and stay with you, you just need to get yourself registered. Whenever their are guests they will come and stay with you, they will pay you fixed rent. You provide them with bedding and breakfast, rest is their own. Well it sounds quite interesting. You get that local flavor, isn't it.
