Default Italy places to see

Should you choose a tour to Italy would you prefer to go to the main touristic areas such as Florence or Venice or would you choose the less visited charming towns such as Capri or the italian riviera such as cinque terre?

When I visited Capri I had much more fun than visiting Rome. It was just this special unique place that stayed in my memories.

Our daughter won a trip to Italy. She had such an awesome time there. She and her friend stayed at a vineyard called Le Minicce and they really enjoyed it. They tried to hit some "road less traveled" places but since they were unfamiliar with the territory, they didn't vary too far.

I'd definately check out the riviera. Also I've always wanted to visit Sicily, though that's off the main land. I just find it cool, you know with the Mafia and all

We've got some suggestions for in our travel guide to Italy if you want some more inspiration.

If you go to Italy, you must really visit Rome. It's a great city and a lot of things to do there.

Definately go to Rome and the Vatican City. Pisa and its famous tower are a must see too. I know a tour guide can be expensive, But I think they really are worth the money if you want to learn things that are not just in the guide books.

I am from Italy, and I hate to see how much tourists are ripped off to go to the main touristic cities. There are really hidden treasures that are gradually being discovered by tourists.

Sicily is not really mafia as you see in the movies. My parents live there and it is really safe. I have lived there for most of my childhood. If you should travel there you will be deluded, because you will not to get to see any mafia action. The big mafia bosses have been caught, so there are just a few secluded gangs that operate in small towns and are hidden. Nothing like the movies, sorry! but you may see some pocket pickers at the main train stations or in crowded touristic areas!
