Default Are people in Spain really tan?

I am planning to go to Spain one day, but I am soooo white. I do not want to look like a vanilla wafer in between oreo cookies. Are people in Spain mostly dark skinned from all the sun? Should I get some sun before going? I have always been light skinned, and have a hard time getting tan.

Tans are overrated! The sun really isn't any good for your skin. I'd say either buy a tan out of a bottle or just don't worry about it. You'll fit in fine as long as you're your friendly self! Oh, and use some good sunscreen....that way you can enjoy it and be safe!!

LOL - this is a funny stereotype. I did not notice the Spaniards to be any more tan than some Americans are, there is a wide range of skin colors. Spanish people are BEAUTIFUL though, that is one thing that is for sure!

Most Spanish people dont sit in the sun, they just have natural dark features. I have seen many who are not stereotypically Spanish, and pale too.

People who live in the sun tend not to go out in it a great deal and do tan but over a long period of time.

Ok, I guess I should be fine. I will avoid getting tan all together as I am really light in complexion and try to avoid the sun all together. But I may bring along a self tanner along though, should I feel a bit odd

Yes, I am sure they are beautiful there, I always liked dark skinned latinos!

I don't know if the Spanish nation is 'tan'

It is more genetic than sun-caused.

Back to when the Moorish took over that part of Europe, and later they mixed.
That is where they get some of the dark in their skin.
