Default Planning Trips

How far in advance do you plan your trips? Do you like to go away at moment's notice, or are you the type to have everything mapped out a few years in advance?

Well, planning a few years in advance is a bit too much, but I have ordered my airlines tickets 6 months before the trip a couple of times - had to, or the rates would have killed me. Usually, I prefer to set approximate date and start planning when the time gets closer to the trip.

Well a short trip can be arranged at a short notice, but a proper holiday when we are traveling far, we do plan our trip two to three months prior to the due date, to avail the best airfares and to have confirmed bookings in hotels.

I have never planned years prior but at least 3-4 months in advance especially for international travel. I do not like surprises so I like to have everything planned. I like to know where we are heading, expected expenses, best hotels, cheapest restaurants and sort all the interesting things to look at.
