Default Sunscreen Protection

We all know sunscreen is important, but how much is enough? Do we really need to be applying those 80 SPF creams? Or is the regular SPF 15 sufficient?

It depends on the sensitivity of your skin and the severity of the sun when you go out. I'd tend to be more liberal these days. Skin cancer is not a fun thing to get.

So lighter skinned people should generally go with a higher SPF than darker skinned people?

Not necessarily. It's *your* skin sensitivity. Darker people sunburn too. It has little to do with complexion. It's just how your skin reacts.

By the way, I just discovered those neat little tube things on a stick. Let me rephrase -- a roller ball of sunscreen. You can even wear it around your neck. It's great for the beach or just to take with you anywhere, anytime. I love it!

We are also hunting for sunscreen lotion, as we are moving out for a holiday. My son and my husband, both get tanned like anything. I will be checking up some skin specialist and then going ahead with some branded lotion.

For me, the only thing that ever keeps me from getting sunburn is staying out of the sun.

Every year, at least once, I get a nasty burn.

This year, oh, terrible.

It seems my skin just hates direct sunlight. Or maybe it loves it too much?

When I was a kid, we never used sunscreen and never heard of skin cancer; I would not be so careless today, of course. I do not get burned easily, but I still put on some protection when I know I will be out in the sun. How much, it really depends on your sun sensitivity.

It greatly depends on the type of sunscreen that you are using. I think all of them has instructions labeled on the bottle.

I generally use sunscreen if I'm going to be right out in the sun. I make my grandkids use it too if they'll be in the pool or out playing. With the depleted ozone layer I wouldn't want to be out there without for very long. I had a step sister die from skin cancer too from being exposed while on holiday in Africa.
