Default Passport Expirations

How long are US passports good for? I thought it was 10 years - is this still the same even with the new passports they are issuing?

Yes , I believe so, but I think you have to have six valid months on it so you can travel.

I don`t have a passport and I never have. I only went out of the country once when me and hubby took a cruise. We only needed birth certificates. We want to go again some day. Doesn`t it cost a lot for a passport? And how long does it take to get one? The above post says 6 months before you can travel? Or am I misunderstanding?

Some countries require that your passport is valid for atleast 6 more months from departure. So if you only have like 5 months left, you need to get a new one

It is not terribly expensive, but it does cost some. Here you can find all the fees related to getting a US passport:

interesting that the more that travel requires passports, the more expensive they become... as soon as you have your passport you can travel though, which is good.

Thanks for the info - I had no idea about this, and it looks like it might apply to some of the places we are thinking of traveling.

In our country, passports are valid for only 5 years.

I never thought of this
I think my passport is expired anyways

I thought it was 10 years here, but they might have changed that with the new security measures

I think every country does have different duration of passport expirations. I am keeping my passport always updated because I travel out of the country alot. The same is true for my other family members, we all love to travel.
