In these trying times of financial troubles, high gas prices, and penny pitching air fare fees, have you considered maximizing your travel experiences by exploring your own area? Have you really vacationed in your own state or region? So many of us take off across the states and yet don't know the great wonders of our own locales. Whether in sunny California or beachy Florida, I'll bet there are spots you've yet to explore that could be lots of fun for you and your family. Check it out and save!

That's actually good advice. We're thinking about staying in the country (Sweden, which is about the same size as one of your states, haha) for our vacation next year. Too bad our summers are hit and miss. Last two have been horrible with mostly rain and cold weather.

I love it when we have people come for a visit from out of state. It gives us the chance to be a tourist in our own area and go places we don't normally go. Of course I'm always up for it, but hubby is kind of a stick in the mud and only goes when we have company who would like to see things. I'm near the Twin Cities and really, there are so many things that are so much fun to go and see. One of these days I'd really like to get up to Duluth. We've lived here for thirteen years and have never gone!

I lived near the Twin Cities for a little over a year ekmallette.
Beautiful area.Exploring your local sights and places to visit is a great idea, I think it is something we should do anyway, not only when we can't afford taking a long vacation somewhere else. I guess there is something subconscious about wanting to travel for vacation, people sometimes fail to realize that they may have good things to see next door. ![]() |

We try to do short weekend trips in our area just so we can be aware of the different attractions and know where to take people when they visit
I think taking a vacation close to home is a great idea though!

I'm glad to see folks are open to the idea. I've been to lots of places near my home, and yet, there are so many other places nearby that I haven't explored as yet. I just think it's an option a lot of folks don't think about much.

We are the ones who otherwise also are not fond of traveling to far off places. We love to holiday, but in our surroundings only, a short drive and putting up in resort.Basic idea is away from the work and being together with the family.I tell you,we have great time this way.

Out here in Utah, there's lots of wilderness for camping and hiking. My wife and I would drive a few hours and end up in a national forest with camp sites and the sounds of nature. There are also great areas for water skiiing, fishing and other outdoor activites. So, it's pretty easy to take a short trip somewhere and get away from everyone.

Yes, I am definetly considering it. I am in Arizona yet, I am ashamed of saying I have not yet gone to the Grand Canyon. I have seen Tombstone, though and the Sonora Desert Musuem. Arizona has surely a lot to offer year round, and I am the first to say that there is surely a lot to do!

what a great post!
we live in the Midwest, and yet, if we don't drive 14 hours or so, it still doesn't feel like we are on vacation I wonder where that feeling comes from maybe it is a subconscious tweek that tries to justify the long drive, the expenditures, so we really feel we are on vacation |
