Default Packing!

Do you have any personal packing rules? I always try to balance between taking as least as possible and yet having all that is necessary with me. I usually take shampoo and conditioner, even though most hotels provide them; I just don't like what they offer.

I have unpacking rules, too: unpacking is done on the day of arrival, dirty clothes washed, suitcase emptied and put away!

I usually only pack as much fits in a carry-on, unless I am going to be somewhere for more than a week. One of my tricks is to take undies/socks I do not care about so much and toss them if I find I need room later for souvenirs

I don`t really have a certain way, but I do start early and I make a list of what I will need.

I always pack a small suitcase, then I stick it inside a larger one so that I have room to bring stuff home!

LOL ekmallette, this reminds me of a Mr.Bean episode when he packs a suitcase... If you haven't seen it, here is a link to a YouTube video, watch it to the very end and you'll see what I mean:

No more cargo luggage but only carry-ons is my rule of thumb. After they lost a luggage of mine I decided to pack light and be safe.

Well, Mr. Bean is, uh... eccentric, let's put it this way. As a long-time fan of his, I can say that it is not stupidity that causes his problems and misadventures, it's creativity and the desire to do things his way.

Haha, I'm also a fan of Mr Bean and that scene is hilarious Another funny episode is when he buys a huge recliner on sale, and can't fit it in his tiny car.. so he decides to put it on the roof and drive from there.

To answer the orig. post though, I usually also try to pack light. When it comes to unpacking though, it can take me up to a week. I hate it!

Well, I used to figure out my wardrobe to a fine detail. Then I decided I didn't want to take so much. Of course, the first time I cut back, I needed something I would normally have brought. You can't win!

I always unpacked when I got wherever and then packed the night before I was leaving to go home again, except on my cruises. Because of space, it was just as easy to keep stuff in my bag, which was on rollers and rectangular shape, like an ottoman almost.

I agree, ge the unpacking done straight away, that way you know where everything is. When I am actually packing for as holiday I plan well in advance with lists for me, one for him and one for each child, that way we dont forget anything important like nappies.

I am very particular with the packing, I am the one who does it for all family members.Every thing is properly placed and packed. I prepare a check list and things are packed according to that.I also prefer taking most of the things from home only.Unpacking is nothing different, it is also a well arrranged affair.

My wife does all of the packing for our family. She has a system set up where she will take clothing for each child, for earch day we're on vacation and rolls up a shirt, pants/shorts, socks and underwear and packs the clothing in a suitcase. When it's time to get dressed, the kids just grab their roll of clothing and they are set for the day.

I make out a list before time for the trip. While packing I check things off as I go. This keeps me from forgetting things like medicine, toothbrush, ect..
