Default Seaside, Oregon

While we were living in Washington State one of our family's most favorite weekend getaways was Seaside, Oregon. The kids loved when we decided to just pack up and go down there for the weekend. There is a wonderful three mile oceanfront promenade with a beautiful beach area. Kites, bikes and everything that you expect from the beach. The downtown area has all sorts of attractions for kids and adults alike....arcades, bumper cars, an antique carousel, some of the best coffee shops ever, and the aquarium where you can feed the seals. There is a statue there commemorating the end of the Lewis and Clark trail....yes folks, this is where their journey ended and where they viewed the Pacific Ocean for the first time. This little city has been the "Beach Playground of the Northwest" for 150 years! If you ever get the opportunity to go...go there! I'm telling you it was the least expensive getaway we could find when the kids were little, and our small amount of money used to go quite a way there. In fact, this is where my hubby and I finally took our honeymoon too!!

Oh most definitely in the summer! The winter would be chilly...maybe downright cold! I have to tell you though, that we had been there in the summer many times, and when we did go for our honeymoon, it was over our anniversary which is in March, and that's why we got our car stuck on the beach. You can drive on it with no problem in the summer...early spring is quite a different story! We hadn't realized there would be a difference at all...oops!

This sounds like a wonderful family vacation spot, and an affordable one, too. What months would be warm enough to swim there? June-August?

Ya know I have never thought that Oregon had beaches. lol I have never been that far west but for some odd reason it just never crossed my mind. I figured mountains. lol. It sounds a lot like Daytona Beach here in Florida. You can drive on that beach too. The sand is very hard. but the east coast of Florida being an the atlantic has stronger tides and much bigger waves. You can surf there but most of the west coast is on the gulf of mexico and the waves aren`t really good for surfing unless a hurricane is out there. Yes people do go surfing when they know the hurricanes are in the gulf.lol

Oh yeah...the summer months definitely would be best to swim there. There are all sorts of things to do besides swimming too though. Kites and beach bikes and such. It's just a really neat place and one that is really dear to my heart because of the fond memories my family has from there.

Washington State is known for all the rain. Oregon is pretty normal I think. I've heard about some good beach areas in Oregon, but haven't yet had the opportunity to visit one. Seaside sounds like it might be a good place to start!
