Some airlines now force overweight people to purchase two tickets. Sometimes, they even force them off the planes. Do you think this is fair?

I do not think its fair to force them off planes, but I do think it is fair for larger people to be required to purchase two seats so that they and the person(s) next to them can fly comfortably.

I don't think there is an airline out there that has seats for larger folks. They are all pretty much regulation, except for first class.

That's quite the economical hardship, and I'm really not sure it's fair, speaking for myself.

It doesn't seem fair, but airplanes do have their weight limits in order to fly. That's why they charge for overweight luggage. If someone is going to weigh as much as two people, then yeah, I can see them charging for two....simply on that basis...that they can only carry so much weight. I'm no skinny minnie myself either and have no prejudices about larger folks, but I do see the sense in it.

How is it not fair to make someone pay extra to make sure that other passengers on the plane are comfortable? Not to mention, extra weight means extra fuel.

ok, so then do you agree with them trying to get all passengers to WEIGH IN AND THE CHECK IN AND CHANGE THE PRICE OF THE TICKET ACCORDING TO THE WEIGHT?
I heard on the news a few months back that some companies were considering it. I don't think it would ever 'fly' do you get the irony? ![]() |

It's a tough call. I haven't heard of the issue until now, but I can see how it's becoming a problem. The general population is getting fatter, and the airlines are struggling to keep their profit margin.

I guess they could make larger seats and charge more for those. But then there will be a similar issue of who needs such a seat and who doesn't.
