When you are looking to reconnect with nature and perhaps even yourself, then you want to do it in the most beautiful location in the world. When you need serenity and true natural beauty, you need to escape to Fiji! Fiji is known to be divided into two separate areas: the mainland, Viti Levu, is where you can find the locals carrying on daily activities within the different shops, cafes, clubs, marketplaces, and bus stations. The resort area is the most popular place for tourists to visit and that is south of the mainland and is called The Coral Coast. It has gotten this name due to the softest coral in the world that lies underneath the water. It is this coral that draws in millions of visitors looking for a once-in-a-lifetime diving opportunity. Although the coral is protected, naturally, with so many visitors, it has sustained some damage. However, with conservation and eco-friendly tourism having become so popular of late, more tourists are careful to leave the coral intact.
Pacific Harbor lies to the west of The Coral Coast and has many hotels and other amenities for visitors. This is a popular area for diving, fishing, white water rafting, and kayaking. To the north of the mainland is Nananu-i-Ra where you can walk through some of the most beautiful countryside. Those who love to find unique backpacking locations make their way here every year for this truly Fijian experience! Not only will you be able to trek through lush greens and see exotic animals, but you can also find remote villages tucked away off the beaten path. These small, isolated villages make for great photo opportunities. It's important to remember to respect other cultures and social situations, so remember to always be courteous.
When it’s time to explore something other than natural wonders, it’s time to head to Suva, the island’s capital. It is here that you can enjoy some fine local cuisine and mingle with the locals, who are some of the friendliest people on earth! It is here that you can find the Suva Municipal Market and buy some traditional delicacies. You can also find tobacco and kava for sale here and can treat yourself to some Indian curry and other spices on Cumming Street.
The Shree Laxmi Narayan Temple is a wonderful spot to visit, especially in August when fire walking and body piercings are on display. The Holy Trinity Cathedral is also not far from here and this draws in many visitors every year.

Viti LevuViti Levu can be considered 'the buried land' as it has spent much of its life submerged in either water or lava. The island eventually chipped and broke its way through and resulted in the perfectly symmetrical shape that it is now. This is an island where there is truly something for everybody whe... |
