Jamaica is often thought of as a destination for partiers and those that are looking to relax and let off some steam. This is not wrong in that Jamaica is an island with some of the friendliest people on earth and that the locals often spend time simply talking and debating over some of the finest rum, as well as listening to reggae music, which will always be at the heart of Jamaica’s musical inspirations. But there is much more to Jamaica than just rum and reggae and everybody is bound to find something that they love about this breathtaking island! There are various historical sites and monuments to discover, as well as several other eco-tourism opportunities to be had. Jamaica has a very diverse population of wildlife, and other indigenous flora and fauna that can be observed from nature trails, plus, they make for excellent hiking, and exploration opportunities.
The Dunns Rivers Falls are often considered by visitors to be a natural wonder. Here there are towering waterfalls that flow magnificently into clear waters below. Visit the site for the beauty and stay as you climb over rocks and slip into the wonderfully relaxing pools of water. There’s no better feeling in the world than splashing around at the bottom of a waterfall! While you’re in the mood for some water fun, be sure to head to Seven Mile Beach in Negril to catch a sunset. There is no explanation for this experience; you simply have to see it for yourself! This beach is also a popular spot for snorkeling, diving, and swimming.
And for a piece of true Jamaican history, visit the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston. Not only will you see pieces of the famous artist’s life such as guitars, other memorabilia, and pieces of his writings but you can also take a tour of the home that was where this legend lived when he died. While in Kingston, take a trip to Mingles in the Courtleigh Hotel to hear some Marley tunes and perhaps even try your own talent at karaoke! Here you will surely find some of the nightlife that Jamaica is famous for and party like the locals do!
Don’t leave Jamaica without visiting Ocho Rios Craft Market. This market is an extremely popular place to find straw hats, wood carvings, native paintings, and shell jewelry. It is also here that you can always find someone willing to braid your hair!
